I sat down five minutes ago and banged out a complete walkthrough for Freelance Alchemist, my latest game on E4.com.
Freelance Alchemist Walkthrough
Like us Americans, this walkthrough is large, opinionated, and formatted in plain text.

I know I asked people to email me if they find any bugs in this text adventure game, but being boring is not an bug. Please stop sending me emails regarding that.

No one has asked me what other games have influenced me in creating this game. In response, I’d have to say the King’s Quest series was a big influence. Though I think I only played one of those games, and then only a few times.
I may not have 100% captured its spirit, or playability.

What’s with Dwarf Fortress getting all popular? Weird, right? I think I could dig an underground fortress faster in real life.

A lot of people have asked “how do you get by the snake? i hate the snake and i hate you”. Pictured above is the most effective way to not be blinded by the snake.
Explanation:
GET ALL
MIX A YELLOW POTION AND CYAN POTION
go SOUTH, EAST
SELL AN EMERALD POTION
go EAST
GET GLASSES
PUT ON GLASSES
SMASH FROG
GET ALL
go WEST, NORTH, NORTH, WEST
(totally unnecessary)
BOTTLE GOO
DRINK SPECKLED POTION
DRINK EMERALD POTION
PUT ALL IN SACK

This game wouldn’t be too bad if it weren’t for the total lack of information it seems to give as to what does what. Wading through a text interface and having to take guesses doesn’t make for a very long-lasting and enjoyable game…
Comment by RuneLancer 09.21.10 @ 3:10 pmThanks for the feedback. There are definitely some weaknesses in the game, especially for casual play.
Comment by allen 09.24.10 @ 9:36 amYeah I can imagine you’ve gotten a lot of stick for this, but don’t take it to heart, anything which seems to ask people to think for themselves gets shot down in flames.
Personally I’m addicted, it’s nice to see an old classic style being resurrected with such attention to detail.
The only flaw is the lack of save option. I haven’t explored a fraction because dying means a loooot of time is wasted going through a lot of the early processes again.
Thanks for an interesting and challenging game.
