Freelance Alchemist Walkthrough
Sunday September 12th 2010, 8:18 pm

I sat down five minutes ago and banged out a complete walkthrough for Freelance Alchemist, my latest game on E4.com.

Freelance Alchemist Walkthrough

Like us Americans, this walkthrough is large, opinionated, and formatted in plain text.

I know I asked people to email me if they find any bugs in this text adventure game, but being boring is not an bug. Please stop sending me emails regarding that.

No one has asked me what other games have influenced me in creating this game. In response, I’d have to say the King’s Quest series was a big influence. Though I think I only played one of those games, and then only a few times.

I may not have 100% captured its spirit, or playability.

What’s with Dwarf Fortress getting all popular? Weird, right? I think I could dig an underground fortress faster in real life.

A lot of people have asked “how do you get by the snake? i hate the snake and i hate you”. Pictured above is the most effective way to not be blinded by the snake.

Explanation:
GET ALL
MIX A YELLOW POTION AND CYAN POTION
go SOUTH, EAST
SELL AN EMERALD POTION
go EAST
GET GLASSES
PUT ON GLASSES
SMASH FROG
GET ALL
go WEST, NORTH, NORTH, WEST
(totally unnecessary)
BOTTLE GOO
DRINK SPECKLED POTION
DRINK EMERALD POTION
PUT ALL IN SACK

Freelance Alchemist Live on E4.com
Sunday September 05th 2010, 3:53 pm

Freelance Alchemist, my new game for e4.com, went live yesterday.

As of this posting it looks like it’s embedded at the wrong size, so it’s showing some funky things beyond the border it was intended. Hopefully that will get resolved soon.

This is a text-command game, and isn’t as casual as most Flash games. I drew some inspiration from Nethack, obviously not so much in game mechanics as trying to create an experience where reward was based on investment in learning labyrinthine details of the game.

Unlike other games I will release a fairly detailed walk-through soon, I hoped to release one at the date of release but I had the date pushed up on me.

In the meantime definitely post and questions, and certainly any bugs found, here.
