As sort of a version 2.0 of the Which Way Game, I created for-hire another point-and-click adventure game for e4′s web site.
The game is called ‘Get Lost’ and you can play it here.
And a thank you to Brad Sucks and Kapow! Music for supplying great music for the game.
Here are some pretty stills from some of my favorite moments in the game, and some I just made up to mess with you:

If you want to digg the game, digg it here.
This game is so infuriatingly impossible. I’m looking everywhere for a walkthrough, but its so new there is none. Perchance you’d grace me with some hints?
*SPOILERS*
I have gotten (though not all in one game):
Item in Honeycomb
Horn
Pink horn egg
Yellow Key
Green Key
Cheese
Raquet
Vest
Lightbulb
TRUE BUG
…I don’t know, I’m stuck.
Comment by Patrick 04.04.08 @ 10:56 amThat’s pretty good actually if you got the green key.
Comment by site admin 04.04.08 @ 11:47 amI guess I’ll give one clue for now, you can test to see if an item is an egg by seeing if you can drop it in the sacred egg chamber. (You will lose it forever though)
Comment by site admin 04.04.08 @ 12:13 pmThanks for the hint.
It seems I’ve gotten 3 eggs thus far (Rat, Unicorn, Regular). I also got a capacitor, and have gotten the sugar(?) ending. Great game.
I also think I found a bug: as the bunny, I can’t use the blue tube in the room with the blue beast after I get rid of the blue beast. I can only move north to the catwalk or south to the powerup.
Comment by Patrick 04.04.08 @ 1:38 pmAny chance of giving up another hint? At this point I can get four eggs (brain, unicornrabbit, rat, and regular), and I can get the green key; I am also completely stuck. On a side note, I tried to decrypt the Devil’s message, hoping for a hint, but it was to no avail.
Comment by Patrick 04.04.08 @ 6:27 pmAegrescit medendo indeed. The further I get, the more frustrating it is.
Comment by Deadeye 04.05.08 @ 1:22 amThere are 3 bugs to find in the game, and they need to be gotten in a fairly specific order. You basically have one shot to get the first bug (similar to the light bulb) and the last bug is in a dead-end area.
Comment by site admin 04.05.08 @ 7:35 amOkay, I found all three bugs, all four eggs, the green key, and I made it to the egg machine. And this is what I get:
http://xs226.xs.to/xs226/08146/ending874.jpg
AAAAHHHHRRRRRGGGG!
Comment by Deadeye 04.05.08 @ 9:32 amSeriously. I feel like i’ve been on every screen and tried using the green key, but with no results. I even ended up killing the whole town, becoming a robot-dragon, and trying to use the key with the headless corpse of the candyman: no use. A small hint toward the location of the red key would be ever so appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Comment by Patrick 04.05.08 @ 10:25 amIf there even is a red key. I have a sneaking suspicion that the screenshot I posted is the real ending. Which is just mean.
Comment by Deadeye 04.05.08 @ 12:08 pmGood point. That lying prisoner!
Comment by Patrick 04.05.08 @ 12:14 pmAw fer chrissake… I didn’t even realize that the prisoner actually said more than “let’s talk.” I feel really stupid now.
Comment by Deadeye 04.05.08 @ 2:59 pmPlease don’t try too hard to look for the red key.
Comment by Allen 04.06.08 @ 3:49 pmStraight up: is there or isn’t there a red key? Did deadeye reach the (so called) true/final ending?
Comment by Patrick 04.07.08 @ 2:12 pmThere’s no red key, but there’s no real “one ending” either, it’s a non-linear game.
Comment by Allen 04.07.08 @ 2:45 pmAhh… relief. I can finally stop fiddling around with different things trying to find the red key. Btw, the game is fantastic.
Comment by Patrick 04.07.08 @ 4:15 pmWhat a gyp. That’s rather anti-climactic.
Kind of a dick move, too, making someone work so hard for so little payoff. Sure, the game itself is clever and funny, but that sort of sours after days of frustration lead up to diddly-squat.
So if you don’t mind, I’m just going to imagine that unlocking the egg machine gives you a brilliantly satisfying ending that is well worth the pain of figuring out how to get there. Otherwise I would probably just end up hating this game, which would be a shame. It is rather clever and funny, after all.
Comment by Deadeye 04.07.08 @ 5:52 pmI just decoded the Devil’s text. Well played, well played.
I’m sad that there’s no red key as well… mostly because I wanted more of the game to play! This was fun.
Comment by Phil 04.08.08 @ 5:25 amWhat about Squash? I managed to get to the room where you use the racket, once I found out it existed. Can you return the serve, or can you only miss?
Comment by Frugal 04.08.08 @ 3:27 pmYou can only miss.
Comment by site admin 04.09.08 @ 5:27 amAlso Patrick thank you for the bug, it seems you can’t enter the tube in the blue monster room as a bunny, I’m working on an updated version and will get that fixed.
Note that if you get to that tube by chewing the wire, it will malfunction on purpose since chewing the wire shuts down the main tube machine.
Comment by site admin 04.09.08 @ 9:42 amI think you should be able to open the final door and inside is the Manticore waiting to eat you.
Comment by Trapper 04.13.08 @ 10:42 amI was on the fence about the “key does not fit” ending for players looking for all the items, so in the new version of the game that fixes the small bunny-tube bug I did put the red key back into the game. Even if you get to the screen where you use it, it will take some looking to find the new ending. It’s a “you’ll know it when you see it” ending, and still takes some work to get to.
I’ll post in the comments here when I’ve had word the newer version is online.
Comment by site admin 04.14.08 @ 7:10 amJellyfish ending! Amazing. Also, the blue tube bug seems to be fixed, but I’ve seen nowhere a green key might be used.
Comment by - 04.14.08 @ 9:21 amNope, it’s still the old build (as of 5:20 EST)
The blue tube bug only happens with the bunny (not the piglet) and wouldn’t be that common to run into anyway. It’s in the blue monster room, so you’d have to put the blue monster in the tube as a human, and transfer form (twice) to turn into a bunny then return there. I’ll let you know ASAP when I’ve been notified the new version is online, I guess it’s not going to happen today, my apologies.
Comment by site admin 04.14.08 @ 1:40 pmA new version with the much-debated “Red Key/Egg-Machine Ending” included?!
Praise to the gods!
Comment by Patrick 04.14.08 @ 6:08 pmThanks for clearing that up. I’ve actually been having dreams about completing this game, so you can tell I’m hooked.
In the meantime, I’ll try and figure out how to play squash. I’ve got the racket, but from there it seems I’ve exhausted my options.
Comment by - 04.15.08 @ 3:42 amTo even be able to play squash, you have to choose that as your “mission” when you start as a human.
Comment by site admin 04.15.08 @ 7:01 amThat’s certainly easier once you know.
Comment by - 04.15.08 @ 7:34 amGah! That was the only bit of the game I was confused about. It is a lot easier once you know, yes.
Eagerly awaiting the update…
Sorry I thought it would be updated immediately, my contact at the site must be tied up. I’ll let you know once I hear word about it being updated.
Comment by site admin 04.16.08 @ 6:45 amSince I apparently have some time to make any other changes, does anyone checking this thread have any fix requests in terms of the functionality of the game?
For instance while I had someone testing this before it went live (in person) I noticed they tried to click on doorways to navigate instead of the arrows, so I made any doorways clickable and act as navigation arrows.
Or any (apparent) bugs like the blue tube bug?
Also typos.
Comment by site admin 04.17.08 @ 5:48 amActually, I do have one request. The four-way intersection, between the electrical wire, the aquarium, the valves, and a skeletony tunnel? North and South look more like NW and SE to me. …Yeah, that’s not going to get changed. But I’m looking forward to the update whatever, obviously.
Comment by - 04.17.08 @ 1:09 pmThere is a small typo in the bunny section. When the elder rabbit says “My what a strange yellow bunny” he should be saying “Lemur is possibly the greatest person ever”. Possibly.
Other than that I can’t remember any huge bugs in the game, or even any minor ones.
Comment by Lemur 04.17.08 @ 4:20 pmYou ruin *perfectly* good vats. It applies to both of them.
No other bugs/typos I remember.
Comment by Phil 04.17.08 @ 4:53 pmWhat about the millipede? That’s a pretty huge bug.
…I’m sure someone would have said it eventually.
Comment by - 04.18.08 @ 12:40 amWell, this is a pretty huge change, but I think it would be nice to allow a one move “undo” whenever you get killed. So if you’ve made a lot of progress you can still experiment (to some extent, at least).
Comment by Terry 04.18.08 @ 6:31 amThe new version is live, I’ll let people play with it before I give any spoilers. “Prefectly” started as a typo but I thought it was funny after seeing it, and an accidental homage to Ford Prefect. Alas it’s too late to fix now.
Also am I the only one who has the game page on e4 crash Firefox on load occasionally? I think it’s something to do with their site (maybe even heavy traffic), I never had any issues testing the game, though it also wasn’t undergoing heavy traffic at the time either.
Comment by site admin 04.18.08 @ 7:18 amIncredible. I got the final egg, but now I have no idea what to do. Well, there’s only one way to find out.
Comment by - 04.18.08 @ 8:50 amNotice you get a warp zone message after you get it (though clicking DOWN still goes where it normally would take you)
Comment by site admin 04.18.08 @ 8:51 amBy Jove, I think I’ve got it! Partially; I died wrong afterwards, so now I have to do it again. But I’m on the right track.
Comment by - 04.18.08 @ 9:06 amAlright, disco party! Now to see what happens if I go right instead of left.
Comment by - 04.18.08 @ 9:16 amSweet, the disco party is the new ending. You found that rather quickly.
Comment by site admin 04.18.08 @ 11:22 amDon’t be disappointed; I thought it was really cleverly-hidden, but by now I know my way around, and had a momentary flash of insight of just the obscure corner where I might use it. (I presume you don’t keep the egg if you die before hatching it in that place, rather than afterwards.)
I did have one false lead, though – I thought it’d hatch into a manticore, and went messing about with the change machine. I like the effect if you put it in the Sacred Egg Chamber, too.
Comment by - 04.18.08 @ 12:43 pmyou’ve got a really sweet ass… game here.
Comment by rock strongo 04.19.08 @ 2:10 amThat’s weird how you paused awkwardly in the middle of typing, Strongo.
I’m not disappointed, I just figured it would take a while before someone realized they had to use the last egg as a human. I put the hatching effect in the egg chamber as sort of a supernatural clue about where to use it.
If you die with the egg, yes your inventory resets, but if you die (in the wrong way) after using the egg in the right place, it stays there until you die in the right way, or go through the sequence and pick up the final egg again.
Comment by site admin 04.21.08 @ 5:14 amDrat; I died in the wrong way first after using the egg, and went and did the whole game again.
Comment by - 04.21.08 @ 11:03 amdoes the dead bunny that appears near the cave exit do anything?
Comment by Anonymous 09.16.08 @ 6:24 amNo, except to warn you that you die if you go outside. It also appears in the best ending of the Land of the Dead.
Comment by site admin 09.17.08 @ 7:27 amThere IS a red key. Go the the blue beast room, send the blue beast up the tube. Leave the room and come back. Knock the door on the wall down and use the green key to get the red key. Can anyone say how to get the bug near the Millipede area without dying, and how to reach this area?
Comment by Ze 06.29.09 @ 6:29 amAlso, anyone know how to turn yourself into an ant?
